About the event
The Celtic festival Samhain (pronounced sow-in) marks the end of the harvest season, and the start of winter or the "dark half" of the year.
Also known as the Witches New Year, it is a time of endings and new beginnings, where we honour our ancestors, reflect on what has passed, to reap the harvest from the year prior, and prepare for what lies before us. A sacred time of stillness, introspection, and letting go.
According to Irish mythology, Samhain was seen as a liminal time when the boundary between this world and the Otherworld could more easily be crossed. Meaning the aos sÃ, the 'spirits' or 'fairies', could more easily cross over into our world. A time for honouring our ancesters and the dead; embodying the 'death' in nature at the beginning of winter.
